BEGINNER LEVEL ONE
This is an introductory class. You don't need any prior dance experience. You will learn basic footwork, rhythm, right turns, cross-body leads, an open break with a push-turn, and a basic dip.
BEGINNER LEVEL TWO
All of the concepts from B1 curriculum will be briefly reviewed and practiced with more detail. In addition, you will learn left turns, left inside turns for follows executed in a cross body lead, a double spin (spot turn), an in and out (Copacabana), and closed position ladies styling.
*It may be time to invest in proper footwear. See links page for websites.
INTERMEDIATE
You will learn the building blocks for turn patterns in this class. Some concepts: XBL inside turns lead with a shoulder tap, Frisbee, and hip lead, XBL right with outside turn, hand tosses, hand illusions, and more. Every class begins with Shines (footwork patterns used during open sections in Salsa dancing).
This class will combine Spin technique and body movement for Latin Dance. Learn better balance and control in dance. Learn to express movement to the music. Learn how to layer movement in the body and get a workout. Must know the basic Salsa footwork and timing.
Folkloric Dance of Cuba. Rumbas, Yoruban Orishas, Arara, Congo. You will learn traditional dance from Cuba while doing repetitive movement isolation. This class helps you isolate body movement, ground yourself, understand the roots of Salsa music, and release stress! Beginners welcome.
There is always a warm up to condition the body for the dance. Ladies bring long skirts or wraps, and guys bring handkerchiefs (if you have them). This class is for both male and female.
This is an introductory class. You don't need any prior dance experience, however, this class moves faster than the "On 1" Beginner Class. You will learn basic footwork, rhythm, right turns, left turns, cross-body lead, hand checks and more.
Mambo is danced "on 2" accenting the off beat of the music, where the majority of the percussion hits in Salsa music. Mambo social dancing concentrates on responding to the music with a seemingly effortless connection between the lead and follow. There are few to zero tricks performed on the dance floor and the skill of the dance is witnessed in its fluidity and interpretation of music. The feel of this dance is smooth and seamless. There is a lot of space for individual style and elegance. It is recommended to invest in proper footwear by the B2 level. Jazz shoes, suede bottom heels, or a shoe with a slick leather bottom. It is not required though.
Rueda (meaning wheel) is a Cuban circular style dance. Partners rotate around each other while changing partners in a circle. There is a caller who determines the moves to be made in sync as a group. There are a lot of double hand-holds, jumps, claps, and rhythmic middle body movements derived from the old Cuban rumba and afro-Cuban tradition. It is all about the group dynamic. Bring your energy and laughter!
Bring water, dress comfortably. Sorry, you may not film during class.
